Following the instructions in the tutorials/FAQ, I backed up the database for the site in my sig. I ended up with a gzipped file of 158KB. Does that sound right?![]()

Does seem kinda small-sounding ...
How big is the .sql file, unzipped?
The .sql file is just a text file. What's it say inside? esp at the bottom?

Can I unzip it without a db to put it in? My problem is the hosting service went belly up and I'm trying to save the site before the server goes off-line and we lose everything.
I did make a backup a while ago when I was upgrading the site from 1.2.7 to 1.3.7. That zip file is only 41K, so the file size might be right (customers and categories/products have been added since that backup).
I tried looking at the zip file with TextPad, but there's nothing in there intended to be read by humans.![]()

Winzip can usually unzip a gzip file. The .sql file will be inside it.
Instead of relying on the server to do the backup, you might want to do a manual backup:

I got brave and unzipped it.It looks like it might be okay. I backed it up using article you mentioned.
Now I just have to convince the store owner that she HAS to find new hosting ASAP. I recommended hosting to her. She just has to get things set up with them.
