Free Shipping Coupon & Sales Tax

Zen Cart 1.3.7 w/security patches
Shipping Table Rate (we need to charge sales tax on shipping here in WI only)
Free Shipping Installed
I created a Coupon for "Free Shipping"

I tried several combinations of settings in
Modules~Shipping~freeshipper
Modules~Order Total~ot-coupon
I did NOT turn on Free shipping in:
Modules~Order Total~ot-shipping

I cannot find the right combinations of settings to remove the sales tax after applying the coupon code.

Sub Total: $33.00
Shipping (Best Way): $9.50
Discount Coupon: xxXXxxXX : -$9.50
State Sales Tax: $2.34
Total: $35.34


5.5% Sales Tax $2.34 is the correct amount including the shipping, it should be $1.82 after the shipping is deducted.

If I am understanding correctly, it looks like your sort order is incorrect. Whatever the sub-total sort order is (eg. 100), make the sales tax next (120), then the shipping (200), then the coupon (300). These options are in the modules/order total in admin and the numbers I use are just examples. It will then figure the tax on the sub-total before the shipping is figured in.

So in my above example the shipping and the associated discount are above (200) both the charge and the discount should be calculated in the tax figure.

If shipping in WI is taxable, would the tax on shipping not still be due
by either you or your customer?

I had that discussion with our sales department and they said that it was not. I probably need to send it to accounting to verify.

The sort order looks correct for what you want, but there is an option in the shipping mdules for a Tax Class. It might be overriding that sort order if it is set to taxable goods (I have never set that option so this is just a guess).

Tried it on - Tried it off and no success. That's why I came to the group, I thought maybe there was some magic combination of attributes on and off.

I'll keep trying. Hopefully someone will have the answer before I pull the rest of my hair out.

Looks like we both confused ourselves on this one. Your sort order is incorrect, the tax is being figured after the shipping, not before. My eyes were playing tricks on me when I answered the first time. Set your tax somewhere between the subtotal and the shipping and see what happens!

sub-total = 100
tax=200
shipping=300
