Quantity discounts for specific multiples only

We sell bottles of fruit juice.
To save on delivery cost, time and 'food-miles' we prefer to ship directly from the producer.
The producer only sells in cases of 12.

So, we are happiest when a customer orders 12, 24, 36, etc.
If they order 14, we have to order two cases from the producer, split one, and then send the 14 bottles on to the customer. Or send 12 direct and the other two later, but either way it's not ideal.

So, we would like to make the unit price for multiples of 12 less than the unit price for any other size of order.

I realize I can achieve this (up to a point) using Quantity discounts in the Products Price Manager (1-11, 12, 13-23, 24, etc) but then the customer is unaware of the discounts if they add-to-cart at the category level and don't look at the product detail.

Any ideas much appreciated.

I don't want to prevent customers buying in other multiples, I just want to encourage them to buy 12s.

You could do a look up to see if there are available discounts on the product and if so then display an image or icon to indicate quantity discounts are available ...

That would encourage them to look at the product _info page to see where they can save more ...

I'm a bit lost -- I don't understand "do a look up to see if there are available discounts on the product".

What would be ideal is to have an option drop-down on the product_info page:
The two options would be 'Bottle' and 'Crate of 12'.
Then '4' in the 'Add to Cart' box would mean either
'4 bottles' (cost = 4 x unit-price)
or '4 crates' (cost = 4 x 12 x cheaper-unit-price)
In the latter case the stock total would be reduced by 48 bottles.

The added benefit would be that the customer would have to click '...options' and enter the product_info page before being able to add to their cart and would then become aware of the lower price.

would be one method to do this ...

But now the discount is the same regardless of how many case you buy but you only get the discount on the cases ...

That works.

But, I actually had to set the 'bottle' price factor to zero, and the 'case' price factor to 11 with an offset of 1, because the item price itself is included as well.
Or is that the wrong way and it's working only by luck?

Just what I wanted

A niggle remains:

I want the Case of 12 option to show the total case price in brackets.

Setting Product Priced by Attributes to 'yes' on the Product page has no effect.

This may be relevant:
I've noticed that on the attributes page, if I don't explicitly put a '+' in the first box under 'Price', then the value in brackets after Case of 12 has no plus sign either, so it looks like an absolute value.
