Default Simple attribute option not involving colours

    Hi all,
With a basic but ever growing knowledge of ZC I've got a simple question concerning attributes.
I have an item which is a wall mounted niche. It comes in it's basic form or you can choose to have a hole cut in it for a light fitting.
This doesn't involve colours, sizes, etc etc....just a simple hole.

How do I do this in attributes? Is attributes the right place for this option?

I just can't figure it out for my needs.

    Thanks
    Andy

    Option Name: Light Fitting
    Option Type: Radiobutton or Dropdown

    Option Value: Select light fitting
    Sort Order: 0

    Option Value: None
    Sort Order: 10

    Option Value: Include hole
    Sort Order: 20

    Attribute:
    Option Name: Light Fitting
    Option Value: Select light fitting
    Display Only: YES
    Default: YES

    Option Name: Light Fitting
    Option Value: None

    Option Name: Light Fitting
    Option Value: Include hole

    Update Sort Order ...

Using the Default and Display Only forces the customer to actually make a correct choice as Display Only attributes cannot be added to the cart ...

That seemed pretty complicated and I'd have never done it without help.
    Thanks so much Linda.
I'm a bit fuzzy over why there's 3 options to choose from. The item either comes with a light fitting (i.e. a hole cut into it) or without. But I suspect I wasn't too clear in my original explanation. And I'm sure I can work it out.
If the basic unit costs 375€ and one with a light fitting (i.e hole) costs 399€ how would this be entered into the attributes grid.

    Thanks again for your help.

I've worked the costing out myself thanks Linda.
But I just wanted to check up on the 3 option buttons. Is it safe to delete the Select Light Fitting button? Or does it's presence perform some function to the attributes?

    Thanks
    Andy

The Select Light Fitting button (which is default and display only) forces the customer to make a conscious choice about the hole.

If you are comfortable with the product defaulting to "no hole", you can make that default (and *not* display only), so the customer will only have to do something if they want the hole.

Thanks Glen, that's starting to clear things up for me. I'm happy with the default being no hole (light fitting).

The changes I want from the above are:
    1) Default is None (no hole/light fitting)
    2) Only 2 radio buttons None & Light Fitting (hole)

So I'll make the attribute "None" default (and *not* display only) and make attribute "Select Light Fitting" the other option. Then delete attribute "include hole"?

Well I'll give it a whirl and see what happens.

    Thanks

What you described does not sound like what you really want/need. The options to be chosen are actually "none" or "include hole (+ 24 euros)". Anyway, I presume you ended up with a functional setup.

And on a different note, the "Light Fitting" might make some customers think they were getting a fitting or mount of some kind, not just a cutout. Perhaps you should make that clearer so no one gets confused or disappointed? e.g. "Light Fitting Hole"

That's a very good point. But the word hole somehow doesn't seem to warrant 24€
So I'm hoping the added image should clear things up.
