Default Advice and Best Practices for Product Configuration

    Good morning-

I was wondering if anyone could offer some guidance as to the best way to configure products on my site. Here's my situation:

I am configuring a site that will sell pet food products - dry, canned, treats, etc. For the sake of this example, let's use a bag of dry dog food. This bag of dog food is available in 10, 20, 30 and 40 lb. bags. I don't want to list the product 4 times, but rather have one product page and let the customer choose the size. As I have it now, the main product has a price of $0.00 and 4 attributes, one for each size that adds the price of said size as well as the weight. So if the 10lb bag costs $10, you end up with

    $0.00 (product price) + $10.00 (selected option) = $10.00 selling price
    0lbs (product weight) + 10lbs (selected option) = 10lbs + 3lb tare

Is this the best way to do this? I'm not sure because in the title bar of my browser, this way shows that the product is $0.00 and my Starting At is blank. Should I instead use the details of the smallest item (10lb bag) to populate the product details fields and just allow them to choose a 20, 30 or 40lb bag? I feel that this way is somewhat confusing to the user.

If anyone has a similar setup or can offer some assistance, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thank you!!!

did you set "price by attribute" set to yes when you set up the product?

I did not. I made that change and my Starting At now shows the lowest price. Thanks!!

Is there a way to configure the attributes so that they don't say +$10.00 but rather just display the price for that item? Maybe I'm just missing something.

The + sign is the default, but you can "un"choose it when setting up your attributes.
Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

I just found that option. I think that I'm all set, but I'm always open to suggestions.

    Thanks!!
