Easy Populate Help

Apologies in advance if this is in the wrong section, Mods, feel free to move it..!

I'm running 1.3.7 with Easy Populate 1.2.5.4

I'm trying to do a bulk upload of new products.

I download the EP file to make sure I had the header colums etc.

Deleted all the existing products from the file (leaving the header colums in tact) and entered all the new products, making sure that any new categories were created first.

Saved as a .txt file

When I do the upload it's only grabbing and uploading the first entry from the file.

Any clues..?

Also, is there a readme for this admin tool..? as I'm not sure how to add the images and product notes via the EP option rather than having to go back and edit each item, which kind of makes EP pointless..!

Thanks in Advance

Re: Easy Populate Help

I'm not sure I'd be much help. I have a new install of Zen 1.3.7.1 and I'm new to the Zen program. I learned how to use CRE Loaded and it came with the ez populate program built in. Is it hiding in the Zen admin or is it something I need to install?

Thanks,
Glenn

Re: Easy Populate Help

MikeDean,

Why not join the rest of us EP newbies in the EP contrib support section? At least we can support each other from one section of this site, rather than being spread out?

Re: Easy Populate Help

Mike yu need to make sure that you have the EOREOR at the end of each line, this is what tells the script that it needs to create a new line

Re: Easy Populate Help

Sorry, I am sure I am in the wrong place, but I have litteraly spent about 45 minutes trying to find answers and find that this topic is spread out in different places in the forum. Mods, feel free to move if needs be.

I have downloaded easy populate from osc 2.7 as instructed someplace in this forum and I opened the readme file which says to check detailed manuals in docs/1readmeFIRST.txt and the complete installation and configuration can be found in /docs/Easypopulate_Manual

well, either I am blind, or I missed something. I am not able to find either of them, as there is no directory by the name of docs even.

I would very much like to learn how to insert thousands of products at the same time, but I can't even get past how to install easy populate.

Please steer me in the right direction.
Thanks for all your help.

Re: Easy Populate Help

thanks, I actually kept looking into things and found that out for myself last night. Got the right install and it seems to be working. Just going thru things now. Trying to figure out how it all works. I uploaded all the example files in the temp folder first time around so I could get a feel for things. Then checking my site, I saw all kinds of things populated which was very exciting. Then I started disecting. Took out the files in temp, Tried one or two to see the outcome. Kind of getting an idea how things are working... Then I tried putting all back in again, but this time none of the images are showing. I think it might be because I deleted from admin all the catagories. Maybe all the pictures were already in directories from the origanl zencart installation, and deleting from admin must have deleted them right?

thanks

Re: Easy Populate Help

OK, now trying to upload products. and the message I am getting is
SKIPPED! - Model: 80067 - No category provided for this new product.
I get this error for all my products. I do have temp chmoded to 777 I have EOREOR at the end of each line, including the title line. and I have v_categories_name as the title for my categories. does this have to be in a certain order? I have all my titles in this order;

v_categories_name v_products_description v_products_image_1 v_products_image_2 v_products_image_3 v_products_name v_products_status v_products_price v_products_weight v_products_model v_products_color v_atributes_size EOREOR

or, did I even set it up right?

thanks for any help

Re: Easy Populate Help

Easy Populate MUST have model number in FIRST column i.e
v_products_model and EOREOR at the end of each line.
Easiest start method..upload several products to your site,
full entered, with model number, image, description etc etc.
Then export test file from easy populate screen, save to your
home computer...use OpenOffice to view..works better than
excel

Re: Easy Populate Help

Great news..forgot to state in my earlier post..
EACH product must have unique model number..
i.e. no duplicates

Re: Easy Populate Help

Just downloaded tonight and I love it! The only issue I am having is with the 'iv_products_image' field. No matter what I place in that field when I go to the listing the image is broken because the directory is set to Main Directory.

The path is images/transformers_alternators/alternator_sunstreaker.jpg

How can I make it so that it points to transformers_alternators/alternator_sunstreaker.jpg

All my directories for transformers are specific (ex. transformers_leaders, transformers_cars, etc,..) due to thier being so many kinds.

Thanks!!

Re: Easy Populate Help

As Misty mentioned to me earlier, try adding a product the way you want the regular way in your admin, and then in your admin/tools/easy populate you can downlaod EP and Froogle Files: one of them, maybe the Complete should show you, save to your pc, then view it, look for the listing you did, and see how it is worded, then you can do it yourself that way onward for your cvs.
hope this helps as it has me.

Re: Easy Populate Help

Did you first upload the images to the directory you mentioned?
if so, when you right click on the images on your site and view properties, is it pointing where you want?

Did you make a typo in this post because image field should be
v_products_image
NOT
iv_products_image

That was a typo - my bad. I am still having the same issue. No matter what path I put in the 'v_products_image' the listing is set at Main Directory. I do have the images in the directory before I pload the file.

Also, I use Image Handler 2 but I woundn't that would make a differece, but bcause I do use IH2 when I right click the image to get the location of the image I see where IH2 stores images not where I load them.

Any idea how I can get the upload to point to the correct directory?

Have you first tried instructions in my previous post, shown above.
This sample file should show how easy populate defines paths
to your image folders.

I did follow your instructions. I ended up deleting the file and starting over. Seems to be working - thanks.

Re: Easy Populate Help

has anyone tried the latest version 2.76?

I'm getting no error messages; it's saying !NEW PRODUCT! at the end of each line, but nothing is being imported into the database and no new products.
