However, I am very hesitant to install FEC on the operational store. That's because I noticed a significant slowdown in the entire system when FEC is installed.

This is especially noticeable (and scary!) after hitting the 'confirm the order' button, where a blank page is displayed with a message:

(Is it possible that the css_javascript_loader is what's causing this delay?)

I am not sure whether replacing multiple checkout pages with long-delay single page checkout is going to viewed favorably by customers.

Are there statistics about the difference in conversion rate between the two approaches?
It seems that different people have different problems. When I hit Confirm Order, it takes less than 1 second to come back. The longest delay is when it is getting shipping costs from 3 different shippers, which is to be expected.
If you had install a previous version of FEC, it can be problematic to get a newer version working as some of the old files get left behind and the uninstall.sql file doesn't appear to get rid of everything in the database. I went thru my database with phpmyadmin using it's search function and found any thing that had FEC or FAST on the title or in the description and removed it, Then the updated version reinstalled without any problems.
