The categories-tabs menu is not covered by this mod. If anything, an extension of the Categories Dressing code would be the thing to handle that.

If you are comfortable poking at PHP, you should be able to transfer the category image substitution code from tpl_categories.php. I'm afraid I don't have the time right now to work on it.
