Credit card numbers

Like I said earlier in my post, I do not know all the details on why they need that number, but they do require it. However, this thread is going no where fast. The more time I spend on these forums, the less impressed I am with the support. I was not asking anyone to help me break the law, I was asking for advice from what I thought to be experts. I know there are ecommerce sites that do store this information and safely. I was hoping I could get tips on how to do that but it seems it is beyond the scope of these forums.

I do not know exactly how I want that number to get into our system, that is why I came to the community forums. I was hoping that some people with more experience in this matter could help, unfortunately, it seems I could get more advice from a brick wall.

I guess it is true that you get what you pay for.

Perhaps it is time to move beyond a free shopping cart.

I was serious there are 3 ways to get the information

and the only feasable way is to have the folks that deal with the orders match the 2 emails,

and your right there are e-commerce packages out there that store the number,

Some use encryption, some dont but if you check with the credit card companies the ONLY time you can store the number is n the case of recurring payments,

Zen Cart is one of the most powerful carts out and part of the reason is the software the other part are the folks that actually have morals and follow the rules,

this is done to protect you the shop owner.......

Once again i would suggest that you dig through the software and see if there is a switch that that will let you turn the cc requirement OFF

OK, well it seems I have found a solution...it's called osCommerce. The problem does not seem to be with free shopping carts, just the Zen Cart free shopping cart. I found answers on the ocCommerce forums. Seems I need to switch to a PCI compliant hosting service, which their users were very nice in pointing a few out. Then some nice person over there developed a Credit Card Encryption mod. According to most posts, it works pretty well.

And since both carts are similar, it should not be too difficult to transition the site to osCommerce.

I sure would like to know where you got this piece of information. I have searched under PCI Compliance. Gone to the Visa, Master Card and America Express PCI Compliance sites and I can not find that information anywhere

Hey while your going over there, you might want to ask them if they have closed ANY of the security holes that have been reported to them for the last several years,
Last I checked the lead dev over there said that he gave the cart security was someone elses job
