Default occasionaly missing email for 8-digits of CC

I wasn't sure quite where ti post this but its becoming a problem for a client.

I have a shop v1.2.6, which uses the standard CC module, spiltting the CC details half in DB and half emailed to client.

Occasionally the emails don't arrive and they have to call up the customer and ask for their missing 8 digits of the credit card - whilst it doesn't sound like much its not very professional!

This company takes lots of money via their online shop and although this only happen 2 or 3 times every 6 months - I want that to be zero

Does anyone have any ideas as to why?

They have checked spam filters etc and I am confident that is not it.

This is their 3rd shop and we have always had this issue although this one was more stable than previous - how do I get rid of it completly!

If there is no way of getting it 100% correct - is there any way of getting those 8 digits back? Due to security issues I cannot store them in the dB BUT is there any other way I can get a copy to save ringing up the client?

I am deperate to resolve this - so any ideas how ever wacky would be greatful!!

I am wanting to upgrade to v1.3 but need to get mroe details on this before I go through that process (its 4500 product website so pretty intensive upgrade)

    thank you
    Sarah

Why is your client not using an online gateway? It would be much safer and less labor than collecting an inputting CC numbers manually.

I'm probably going to get hammered for suggesting e-Path again http://e-path.com.au but this is one option you could consider considering your situation.

You obviously have a merchant account and are already charging credit cards so e-Path would be pretty well made to measure for you. Its the cheapest gateway I know of, no transaction charges and works in any country with any currency and you still do what you normally do - charge cards when the data comes through to you.

Thanks to DrByte there is a killer e-Path payment module now for Zen Cart.

No, I'm not associated with e-Path but I did try to do their module for them of which Dr Byte completed for me (more like he did the whole things!!). And I do have an e-Path merchant account of my own and the truth is I find it awesome, it saves me a bundle.

You can see what it would be like having e-Path and Zen by playing on the Zen Cart demo here: http://thefruitboxshop.com/shopping_carts.html

I'm sorry if this sounds like I'm giving them a plug but in all honesty what you described makes for a perfect candidate to have e-Path securely handle your credit card payments without you having to change the way you do things.

Anyway, hope it all works out.

I echo Kim's statement ... if they're doing that much CC processing, they really should get set up with a gateway...

For the record, the basic CC module was improved in v1.3 with a focus on getting the emails to send more reliably, and building in some warnings if the module isn't configured properly.

    Hi All,

    Thank you for your comments:

    1. the client has always taken the money this way and whilst I do keep suggesting alternatives he is a bit of a stick in the mud and likes having the control of it. But I will again see what his thoughts are - but not sure if you are aware that it can cost up to £500 to set up the online payments... so its not cheap either. And don't forget other payments take the money straight away where as this method he takes the money when stock is sent

    2. I will look at epath as I haven't heard about that one - thank you

What I really wanted though was instead of second guessing my client (or replying a question with a question) was if there was any reasoning behind why it was happening - does anyone know why ? you say v1.3 improves the email reliability - is that why they go missing? have other people had this issue

I am trying to find out the why before I implement a solution :) instead of rushing in and doing something that we have no guarantee will resolve the situation

(for example I was wondering if it was people that were using mahcine with js diabled - would that make a difference and therefore a different payment module would possibly have the same issue too?)

    Thanks
    Sarah

I'm on 1.3.5 and am suddenly hitting this issue a LOT in, say, the last 3 weeks. Like 1/4 of my orders. Okay, I will get a credit card gateway processor, but I have a lot on my plate including the 6 month overdue upgrade that just never quite seems to get done and TAXES! So please no nagging. Is there any other information I could get on why this is happening so much if it was addressed in subsequent releases to the one the first poster had?
