Default Just set up my first overides

Just set up my first overides on my first Zen Cart installation. I was surprised how easy the overide system is to use. Basically everytime you edit a "Classic" file, you are doing what you need to do in the overide system anyway minus creating a new folder, so why not do it the right way.

From the admin section, I can switch back and forth between the classic and my custom templates so I'm guessing I did everything correctly.

So, if I do an update from the admin section, nothing should change in my custom template folders, correct? Anything else I need to do?

    Thanks for advising a noob.

??? Most things set in the admin are stored in the DB and are global or apply to any template you activate there are some exceptions like sidebox layout that are template specific. Being DB stored though it does not change template files

I was reffering to check for updates button in the admin area. If I install an update, it will not overwrite or delete my custom override folders, correct?

Correct, as this is the intention of theoverrides system...

NOTE: You do need to look at the file change log for any upgrade and compare this to the files that you have as overrides. If any match up you then need to merge/update these override files to the current version to insure full function and in some cases operation.

Keeping this to only files that you edit makes this a simpler operation as these are the only files you need to be concerned with
