    Default Shipping Setup Help

on my site cheapstairparts.com go to wood products then handrails and i have only 1 product listed.

    here is my problem

shipping will cost an extra $25 packaging if they order 1 to 4 of them. because our special packaging cost $25.

if they order up to 8 thats $50 extra.

but how do I incorporate this into my system. I can't add a flat $25 per item because if they order 4 it makes it $100 extra.

    How do I do this?

    Hi,

What shipping module are you using for your store?

    we ship using fedex ground.

    see this is my problem.

we are selling a long piece of wood. it comes in 4, 8, 12, and 16 ft. sections. the length is an attribute selections.

but we want the 4 and 8 to be normal shipping / weight calculated. but the 12 and 16 selection needs to be 25$ per 1 to 4 pieces.

im just boggled on how to do this w/o making each length its own item, which i do NOT want to do. cause i got tons of more products that will need this setup.

Could you not use the table rate?

    1 x handrail = 3kg
    5 x handrail = 15kg

    12:25.00,50:50.00 etc

remember you can add extra weight to attributes?

Do you get what I mean?

Yea I get what you mean.

Every one of the attributes does add the appropriate weight for the larger items.

The thing is, the 12 and 16 foot items have to have special packaging that cost $25 per 4.

I need to be able to charge them $25 extra dollars per 4 ordered on the 12 and 16 foot, but not the 4 and 8 foot.

    Hi,

Apologies in advance if I don't explain this very well:

So you create your product Handrail and give it a weight of 3kg

    Attributes

    4 foot
    8 foot
12 foot (add 3kg additional weight)
16 foot (add 3kg additional weight)

Table Rate 15:25.00,50:50.00 (so up to 15kg would be $25.00 and from 15kg to 50kg would be $50)

    4 foot x 4 (at 3kg) = 12 kg
    8 foot x 4 (at 3kg) = 12 kg
    12 foot x 4 (at 6kg) = 24 kg
    16 foot x 4 (at 6kg) = 24 kg

Remember the weights you use do not have to be the actual weights, just good enough to create the correct shipping price.

Well our correct shipping price already gets created.

If I start altering weight calculations won't it affect Every order that reaches that weight limit?

Yes they would so you would have to make sure that whatever weights you use add up correctly to the Table Rate you already have in place.
