Tax calculation inconsistant

I am sure this must have been raised before but I have not found a solution.

I would really prefer to show prices including 17.5% VAT but it is not being calculated correctly at the checkout, although it is if I show prices excluding VAT.

Example:

12 items at £5.11 + 17.5% VAT should be £72.05 and this is shown correctly at the checkout (and invoice) when showing prices excluding tax. However, when showing prices including tax the total comes to £72.00 on the invoice. The ex VAT total is shown correctly at £61.32 in both cases.

I am using v1.3.6 and for the include price setup I am using the total order:

Any advice welcome because I really don't want to have to revert to showing prices without VAT if I can avoid it but I will have to if I can't find a solution.

I can answer my own question - I really don't know what changed and when, and it's been fine like this for over a year, but in order to make new accounts slightly less painful, we'd removed ALL the stuff about the customers state etc.

A logged in customer would then see EX-vat (tax) priced, but no we put the state bit back, they see INC-vat prices.

Go figure!
