help question Moving from one domain to another

Has anyone had to move their entire store from one domain to another? If so, how difficult is it to do? I will need to do this in a few months so I am going to practice copying my live store to a domain I have that isn't being used. I am using CuteFTP 8.0 Professional and I am currently copying my entire zen cart file structure to a folder on my desktop. I was then going to upload it tomorrow to the other domain. I am curious which files need to be altered? Also, I will export my database then import it into a new database. I imagine there are entries in the database to change too?

Under normal circumstances I wouldn't do this but it has to be done in a few months.

Any words of advice for a New Zenner?

    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi There,

I really need help on the issue of moving from one domain to another.

I have executed WIKI instruction on this matter until Step 5 of "Installing your site copy". When I tried to import the DB backup file. I got the following message (see below shot screen):

How do I fix this problem?

    Regards,
    James

I don't know much about anything when it comes to stuff like this. However, check to be sure you have created a new user (or used an existing user) then added that user to the specific database you are accessing. The user needs to have privileges set to ALL.

I was able to move my store to a new domain as follows:

    1. I put my store into the Maintenance mode.
    2. I copied the entire file structure of the store to a folder on my desktop(I used the FTP program CuteFTP Pro Version 8).
    3. I exported my database to my desktop as a txt file.
    4. I made a new blank database. I named it something appropriate.
    5. I created a user for the new database and added this new user to the new database. This new user has privileges set to ALL.
    6. I imported the txt file I had exported earlier in step 3 above.
    7. I put the entire file structure, using my FTP program, into the new domain I am using.
    8. I edited the following file: /includes/configure.php so that all the database info is correct as well as the domain info is correct.
    9. I edited the following file /admin/includes/configure.php the same way as I did the step above. **replace the word 'admin' with whatever your admin folder is called, that is if you changed it to be more secure**
    10. I changed the permissions(CHMOD) on both configure.php files to 444 (Owner=read, Group=read, Public=read)
    11. I took my store out of Maintenance.

That was all I had to do. Except for uploading and download the file structure it was all very quick and easy.

I am pretty sure that was all I had to do. If I have missed something, maybe another person reading this can mention it. I am writing this by memory so I might have a missing step but I don't think so?

    HTH,
    Steve

I did the same thing recently. Your steps sound correct.
