Timezone Offset

I have just installed time offset. At first i lost my admin all together, but when i ran the database_mod. sql in phpmyadmin it came back.(took me 8 hours to sort. I entered -8 in store admin panel and i had an error saying there was an 8 hour diff. Like a n idiot i put in o clicked update and lost the lot. Now when i try to log in, after password itc i get this;
1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ') as date' at line 1
in:
[select date_add(now(), INTERVAL HOUR) as date]
If you were entering information, press the BACK button in your browser and re-check the information you had entered to be sure you left no blank fields.

One of the threads said to look into zen_configuration but i dont know what i am looking for even if i am looking in the correct place. This is all a bit new to me.
