    Default Whitespace trouble!

    I have seen and read various posts on this issue but none seem to work for me or I can't understand the problem

    My site is earthbeauty.co.uk and I have unwanted white space under the header and under the ez navs.

    If someone can help me rectify this I will run down the street naked

    You have a mistake in the code around the <div id="navMain">. There's an blank, unclosed <ul>

    Also, your .5em padding in the css for navBreadCrumb

    This guy really knows his stuff!!!!!

    Many thanks for that. Spot on. I'm sure it would have taken me years to pick up on that stray tag. Big thumbs up to you!

    Darn it

    Just noticed it removes the white gap in Firefox but not Safari. Any thoughts please?

    You have so many things turned off in the nav area and clear both calls in the middle of some.

    You'll need to experiment with display: none; for some of the items you are not using. Firefox is ignoring blanks while other programs may or may not.

    Your design or bought?

    Not that I don't accept PMs but, keeping it in the forum allows more folks to learn along with us. Naturally anything affecting security would be different.

    <div id="navMainWrapper">
    <br class="clearBoth"/>
    </div>
    <div id="logoWrapper"> </div>
    <div id="navMain"> </div>

    <br class="clearBoth"/>
    <div id="navEZPagesTop">
    You have several items in the page source that have no data in them (items in gold). One of them has a clearboth in the middle of the div. See the red above.
    You'll need to do a couple of things.
    1. Use the developer's toolkit in the admin to find logoWrapper and NavMain. You'll find the file they are defined in will have a space somewhere between some single quotes. remove the space.
    2. Get rid of the clearBoth inside the navMainWrapper. Won't display right inside another div
    3. If those don't cure the space, you'll need to enter display: none; as the attribute for navMainWrapper, logowrapper, navMain in the CSS.
    An example would be
    #navMainWrapper {
    display: none;
    }
    Still wonder if you created or bought this challenge.

    Thanks for your reply again. I'm of to work now but will give your suggestions a go tonight.

    This is the default template that I am trying to customise myself, sloooowly

    I am also looking to get links into the right panel of the header next to the lady - is this possible?

    ok all sorted now (on Mac at least anyway)

    Removed the <br class="clearBoth" /> from the div as suggested but this didn't do anything, but noticed in the tpl_header there was another one at the end of the branding display - removed this and it cleared the white space.

    As long as no-one says it still has a gap in windows IE then I'm happy now. Thanks for your help

    Glad you got it going.

    When you're able to relax from the "gotta get it going'' mode, I would suggest that you look at using the portions of the stylesheet and layout that you have left out with this deisgn. Visit (sorry, site offline) and see how different the sites can look using the basic "skeleton."

    It's not unusual at all for someone to take the "easy" way out in this type of situation. However, a little more time in preparation could give the same look without having to do such a large departure from the "skeleton."

    We've all rushed through a site to meet a deadline but I think several in the forum will echo that a test site can do so much in expanding one's knowledge.

    Had a sign above my desk in the military. "Never enough time to do it right but always enough time to do it over." Hard some times to convince a customer that time should be spent but, don't find yourself spending it over and over.

    Don't know if there's a product like xampp (Linux) or IIS for Mac but, get yourself something to test locally and start playing with how very much you can accomplish with zencart's skeleton and the CSS.
