Default Email spams ( is it virus? )

    Hello.
I have zencart installed. i also have added captcha .. i don't get any spam from contact us, but my problem is that , i receive spams to my domain emails under my own domain name ..

senders email address is our domain name ..ex: [email protected]

i was wondering ,if this is result of virus on one of our local computer that is set to retrieve all emails from our webmail account or is it possible to be something else

all computers have up to date virus protection , (nod32 ) ..

    thanks.

I get a bunch of spam each day that is supposedly from my own domain as well. I don't think it's a virus, I am EXTREMELY cautious about what I download. I think it's just the spammers. (I'd like to see them in a hell where they spend eternity with ads for ############ and Percocet droning in their ears!)

Retrieve all means just that ... you get 'em all ...

So when I set up my little spammer program over night to build all the emails for my list of 227,556 names and send them out 5 to 25 to 100 emails a night in combination from all the domain names that I have harvested ... I am flooding you out big time ...

Not that I would do such a thing but that is what is happening ...

If you were to collect those emails over time, you would find patterns to them on the naming and the from address in the raw headers ...

The worse ones I add a nice little filter to either get the failed email or fall into the blackhole email to never be seen again ...

But, I like the open address on some of my domains and then lock down other domains to be more specific ...

It just depends on how much you like to work with your emails ...

It is easier to filter out your "good" email addresses to various folders in your email software than to filter the bad ...

So make folders for the good and let the bad fall into a last resort filtered folder where you can clean up or trash them ...

Take precautions and never enter raw on your website:
    email me at: my_name@my_web_site.com

That is email harvest food ...

See how the multiple emails are done for the contact_us where the emails are not in a raw format to feed the hungry ...

Anyone can put any "From:" or "Reply To" email address they like in the emails they send out. The truly annoying thing is when they put a "Reply To" mail address based on your domain name and then you get the complaints from the people they spammed.

Mostly the "From" email addresses don't even exist on your domain e.g. [email protected], and the only reason you receive them is because you have a catch-all email alias set up on your hosting. If you delete the catch-all alias then you'll only receive emails to genuine email addresses you have set up.

You should also look at setting up an SPF (Send Policy Framework) record on your domain, which proves when emails genuinely come from your domain.
