Default Product attributes and pricing question

So I have a product. It comes in 5 sizes, and each size has its own weight and price. I could just add the product to my db 5 times each with its own price and weight, but i would rather add the product to the database once, then setup attributes so the user can just select the size from a dropdown list and add to cart with the corresponding price, and the correct weight would be attributed for the shipping cost.

I don't see any easy way to make this happen.

Any clues? OR am I stuck just adding every product 5 times?

    Thank you!

You could do this using the product attributes feature of ZenCart except for the requirement of different shipping weights.

If the shipping does not vary significantly between sizes, you might consider just picking the highest weight among products and apply that to all product. This is practical if the items are under 1 lb each or if more than a pound but do not vary more than one or two pounds since there will be little or no difference in shipping costs.

Also, I saw very recently a new contribution (within past 60 days) for handling multiple attributes. Try a search in the forums and download section. I think the contribution focuses on clothing attributes. Not sure if it makes any adjustments for shipping weight.

    Product Name: Widget
    Product Price: 0.00
    Product Priced by Attribute: YES

    Option Name: Size
    Option Value: Small
    Sort Order: 10
    Attribute Prefix: blank
    Attribute Price: 1.00
    Attribute Weight Prefix: blank
    Attribute Weight: .25

    Option Name: Size
    Option Value: Medium
    Sort Order: 20
    Attribute Prefix: blank
    Attribute Price: 1.25
    Attribute Weight Prefix: blank
    Attribute Weight: .50

    Option Name: Size
    Option Value: Large
    Sort Order: 30
    Attribute Prefix: blank
    Attribute Price: 1.75
    Attribute Weight Prefix: blank
    Attribute Weight: .75

It is a good idea to set the sort order in the Option Values Manager as the defaults so you can sort any time you want the whole catalog ...

It is also a good idea to add an extra Option Value such as:
    -- Pick one --
    -- Select from below ---
    Sort Order: 0

Then add to the product the Attribute:
    Option Name: Size
Option Value: -- Select from Below --
    Sort Order: 0
    Default: YES
    Display Only: YES

This forces the customer to pick the right size for them and not accidentally forget to pick one or pick the default ...

    Thanks Ajeh:

This is the best description I have seen on what can otherwise be a baffling process. I'm going to put it to use right away. This should be added to the Wiki.

Is there any way for me to add an attribute quantity for each options? I just can't seem to find anywhere to do that.
