help question USPS Module HELP PLEASE!!!

Okay, I set up my USPS module. It shows up when I go to checkout. But, a message appears:

    United States Postal Service
We are unable to find a USPS shipping quote suitable for your mailing address and the shipping methods we typically use.
If you prefer to use USPS as your shipping method, please contact us for assistance.
(Please check that your Zip Code is entered correctly.)

I have an account on the USPS website and copy and pasted the USPS Web Tools ID. Is there something else I am doing wrong? Anything else I need to set up for it?

Also, when you look in the USPS Module, it says "Shipping Zones" with a drop down. I choose the location where it will be shipping FROM, right? This confusion doesn't seem to effect the above situation because I tried it both ways: leaving the drop down under Shipping Zones blank and choosing "Florida" where items will be shipped.

    THANKS!!!

What is the 5 Digit Zip Code and Ship From address?

What is the Ship To address?

Do you have any Zones setup?

    What version of Zen Cart?

    Clean install or an Upgrade?

How did you install? How did you Upgrade?

Have you an URL to your site that we can peek at?

    1) 32004 and the Ship From is a P.O box. Does this make a difference?

    2) I was using my personal address to test it. (From P.O box address TO my personal residence address..to see if it would work. Maybe not a good idea? Maybe I confused it because the addresses are just 30 minutes apart?)

    3) I did have zones set up for a little and that didn't work so I just uninstalled that feature.

    4) Version 1.3.7.1. I just installed it recently via fantasico on my bluehost server. Clean Install.

Again about the PO box. I have one of those business PO boxes. Does USPS allow this?

I don't believe the street address, or PO Box in this case, comes into play...just the to and from zip codes. As evidence, the estimate shipping only asked for a zip code in both Zen and the USPS website.

Anyway, I'm anxious to hear Linda's thoughts and I have the same problem with this but haven't had the time to trouble shoot.

The PO Box comes into Play when the package gets to USPS and UPS ...

Check with your carrier to ensure that you can get the returned package and can send to the PO Box address ...

UPS doesn't deliver to PO Boxes ...

NOTE: Mailboxes Etc. and the like while they are PO Box the address can be written as Suite 32 vs PO Box 32 and UPS will deliver as they have the same hours as UPS ...

    Hi,

juts wanted to update this situation, as always I should have read more carefully what USPS say in their signup email. They have the account setup for testing only. So the setting in zencart seems to be totally overridden by the USPS.

So calling USPS - as stated in the email - and had them switch over to the production server made the difference. And now everything seems to work.

AND the service rep said he would switch it over right away as the zencart solution has been very thorougly tested so they had no problem switching to the production server.

Another note; in the book "Zen Cart" by Kerry Watson & Matthew Therrien 2.nd edition the screen shot on page 152 re the USPS module no USPS password is needed now and there are no field in ZenCart for the password.
You only need to enter the unsername in ZenCart.

For reference here is the sign up email from usps.

    Cheers
    Bo

Thank you for registering for the U. S. Postal Service's Web Tools Application Program Interfaces (APIs). We are providing you with a User ID that serves multiple purposes, as explained below.

    Your Username is XXXXXXXXXX
    Your Password is YYYYYYYYYY

Your Web Tools User ID, shown above, is required to test and integrate USPS Web Tools APIs. With this ID, you may begin sending calls to the test server. Depending on the API, the address to the test server is either http://testing.shippingapis.com/ShippingAPITest.dll or https://secure.shippingapis.com/ShippingAPITest.dll. Use this information in combination with your User ID and your XML string to send a request to the USPS servers. For more details, refer to the programming guides (located at http://www.usps.com/webtools) for the specific API you are integrating.

A sample test request would look like: "http://testing.shippingapis.com/ShippingAPITest.dll?API=[API_Name]&XML=[XML_String_containing_User_ID]"

When you have completed your testing, email the USPS Internet Customer Care Center (ICCC). They will switch your profile to allow you access to the production server and will provide you with the production URLs.

The ICCC is staffed from 7:00AM to 11:00PM Eastern Time.

The latest versions of the technical documentation, including the Administrative Guide, are available from USPS.com at http://www.usps.com/webtools. This documentation provides the information you will need to utilize our APIs. It is available in both PDF and HTML formats. In order to open and view in PDF you must have Adobe Reader installed on your system. You may download this software, at no cost, from http://www.adobe.com/reader.
