    Default Upgrade handholding needed!

    Hi All,
I'm ready to upgrade my site, and I am trying to ensure that the final step will go without a hitch. I have my up and running store at:
    www.goldenapplels.com/ZcartGA

and I have my new upgraded site at:

    www.goldenapplels.com/shop

The only thing missing from the new site is the MYSQL database. This is the part I am doing tonight, and I am hoping it will go smoothly. However, my test attempts at installing a db have not gone well. Here's what I think I need to do to upgrade my old db:

Change the name of the db in the configure.php to my old db name. Run the ZC installer. Upgrade the db by following the steps in the installer.

Does this sound like the procedure?

My attempts to fool the program by renaming my old db with my new db name, uploading it and running the install have not worked. Also, do I need to change my admin file name back to admin, from the security name change i added?
Thanks - I looked for straight forward instructions on this on the forum but I couldn't find them. If it exists somewhere, please direct me to it!

    John

When you created /shop, did you create a database to go with it and run the installer from scratch?

I used fantastico, and it created the db.

So you have an empty database in your /store? Good!

Follow the instructions here and make a backup of your LIVE database. When you're done, import it into the /store database (also using phpMyAdmin) and you should be good to go.

    Default Upgrade handholding needed! Failed!

    Ahhhhhh!
I'm pretty disappointed - it didn't work, and in trying to figure it out, I basically got myself back to square one - just with more bitter experience.
Now I have thrown everything away and started with a fresh install of ZC via Fantastico. I went to phpMYSQL and imported my old DB into the fresh and clean DB and nothing... the DB now has lots of records in all the fields, but when I go to my site, none of the records are there - no products, no customers nothing. Obviously I am missing a step but what is it? I don't want to start working on my site again until I can figure this out, because I already wasted three days setting up a new site, only to have the upgrade not work. This time I want to be sure i can get the data across before i start building the site.
Here's where I am right now:
    www.goldenapplels.com/shop
which is nowhere compared to where I was yesterday. So a sad morning, but I am determined to figure this out!

    Default Problem Solved!

Okay, I solved it. There is one important detail that was missing, and I found it in another post. The installer was throwing a prefix into the configure files (zen) which was causing the configure to not see my db. I stripped out the zen prefix in both files, and bang- there was my data! Just wish I had known this last night!

I've been thinking about this all day and was about to suggest that the config was pointing to the wrong database. I'm glad you got it worked out.

    Good Luck and Happy Zenning!
