help question Single Column Layout - where is that switch?

Can anyone tell me where the switch is for single column layout? All I can find are the two settings under Config > Layout Settings for 'Column Left Status - Global' and 'Column Right Status - Global'.

I'd be happy to turn this into a FAQ once the answer is given. I've searched on 'single column layout', 'column layout', 'single', and looked through all the Layout FAQs I could find.

    Thanks,
    James

What happens when both, Left & Right Columns Global, are set to 0?

Theoretically, that should give you just one column; unless you are using some other Theme/Template with different settings. If yes, that Theme/Template could be using page overrides.

    Rob,
Thanks for the reply. When both columns are set to '0', both columns are off in the layout and the content column takes up the entire width. I was hoping for the 'Single Column' layout settings in Tools > Layout Boxes Controller to take effect.

Maybe I'm missing something but the example site you reference appears to be using the exact setup we've been discussing; Left & Right Columns set to 0.

I think we have a different idea of what is meant by "Single Column Layout." I believe you're seeing it as the content column being the single column. I'd like the content column to show (as it is now), but I would like there to be a single column of sideboxes on the left.

The Layout Boxes controller gives me the impression that sideboxes can be configured to be ON/OFF for the right or left column when in Multi Column view or ON/OFF for the Single Column Layout. Am I wrong?

I realize that a workaround would be to move all the sideboxes I want visible into the left column, then set the Left Column Glbal Status to 1, but I'm trying to establish if there is supposed to be a switch to put Zen Cart into 'Single Column' mode so that the 'Single Column' setting for each sidebox takes effect. If there is no such setting, what is the purpose of the Single Column ON/OFF switch for each sidebox?

    Thanks,
    James

Yes, there is some confusion as you are referring to a Two Column layout.

First, you turn off the Left or Right column as we've already discussed.

Next, in Admin > Tools > Layout Boxes Controller you decide what Sideboxes will be displayed and where. Take note that in this section, you will be given notice that you have to pay attention to the settings for Left/Right Column Status for each Sidebox.

What's confusing is that Zen Cart itself makes reference to the Sidebox settings as "Single Column" setting which, technically, is not correct.

Hey, something just clicked - I get it now. My 'workaround' is the real way to accomplish the layout I want. Thanks for your help, Rob. I haven't zenned in over a year, so I'm still getting my feet wet again.

    Peace,
    James
