Pre Orders

I want to offer a pre order facility on my products where customers pay 50% now and then they are charged the other 50% when the items come..can this be done...

Price by Attributes :-
Pre-Order 50% of price - pay 50% later
Order now 100% of the price

The only difficulty is how you collect the second 50% unless to ask them to pay online when the product is available for delivery... or collect by other means.
