Special requirements for a 'shopping' application

We have special requirements for a 'shopping' application. I'm trying to figure out if I Zen Cart can do what we need it to do...

--We need user registration and data collection that lets 'customers' create and save their user profiles (including contact info as well as lifestyle preferences)

--the 'customer' needs to be able to adjust item attributes (quantity, size, weight, etc.) before adding the item to the cart.

--upon checkout , the items in the cart need to be added to the customer's profile and some of the attributes (like quantity, weight) need to be tallied.

can anyone tell me if Zen Cart can do these things? Thanks for your help!

The user account including contact details is built into Zen Cart, I am not sure what you mean by lifestyle preferences? For this you may need to modify (or get someone else to modify) the code slightly...

Zen Cart attributes can do this...

If you mean that different sizes and weights will be different prices, then Zen Cart attributes can do this as well...

Purchased items are not added to a customer's profile, but there is a history of customer orders available.

Thanks Mary Ellen. Do you know how doable it would be (doable, not doable, easily doable, barely doable) to create a custom Zen-cart application with this kind of functionality?

If it is doable, where would you look for a talented/dependable someone who could do it? Thanks again.

Thanks RuFuS, it sounds like most of the functionality is there already.

Do you have any suggestions on where we should look for someone who can help us with this? They need to be technically sharp with a good design sense. Thanks again!
