Default Programming for a unique URL Structure?

It has been pointed out to me that I would benefit from a "unique URL structure".

For example, instead of the following:
    (h)ttp://domain_name.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=33

    The URL would read:
    (h)ttp://domain_name.com/products/shotguns/ruger_red_label

Each page currently is the same up to the .php? and is then followed by some un-inteligible stuff. I have noticed that some other posters on this forum who have put links to their web pages show the same sort of structure while others are more like the legible sample I provided.

    Can this be corrected?
