DrByte indicated numerous times that shared hosting with GoDaddy blocks port 1129 which is needed for LinkPoint, so I called GoDaddy today to see if they can offer a solution and possibly upgrade to a virtual dedicated hosting plan. From my personal experience support at GoDaddy is pretty good considering their low hosting prices and they actually had a tech person on the phone to clarify the situation. They advised that port 1129 is NOT being blocked even for shared hosting plans. At this point I am a little confused because I am still getting "We apologize for the inconvenience, but we are presently unable to contact the Credit Card company for authorization. Please contact the Store Owner for payment alternatives".
Before I put the proxy settings for cURL I wasn't even getting this message - it would sit for exactly a minute trying to get a response back from the server and then time out and display a blank page. Now, after I entered the proxy for cURL it gives me the "... unable to contact the credit card company..." message.
My question is - is there a way to check whether 1129 is in fact being blocked on GoDaddy's server?
What are the other benefits (if any) of upgrading to one of the virtual dedicated plans? Their shared Delux plan allows hosting multiple Web sites but only one of them could have SSL, as there's only one dedicated IP address. If I go with a virtual dedicated plan could I have multiple Web sites with SSL certificates for each of them?
I know it may be easier to switch to a different hosting provider but I am afraid I will run into other problems. Like with one host I was using they required you to buy SSL certificates directly from them and they were charging around $100 a year.
I am going to have to make a decision in the next few days on which way to go. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks a lot!
