Fixed Width / Liquid Store ?

I hate to ask for help with something I'm sure has been discussed before - but I've been wading through the forums for a few hours and haven't found what I'm looking for. I think. I'm not entirely sure what I should to be looking for. Ack.

So that's why I'm here. Any help would be muchly appreciated.

My problem:

I can't get my store to sit still.

On my resolution (1024x768) my stores width and placement is exactly where I want it to be.
But on other resolutions, or if I change my browser width, the entire store will expand or contract to fit. That visually throws the store off horribly on accounta my logo being "fixed".

My question is, how do I keep the store stable - and not "liquid"? ( I hope i'm using these terms correctly...)

I currently have my width in #mainWrapper at 77% because my goal was to have my store centered with my background image visible around the edges:



and that was the only place I knew of to acheive that.

Might that be the problem?

Do I specify the tables size elsewhere?

Oh, I have version 1.3.0 with a custom template based on template_default...

You need to use a fixed number of pixels if you don't want it to expand and contract.

Found it, change % to px inthe style sheet

Can you show me how and where you actually changed this. I'm trying to to the same sort of thing with my site. I actually want the images to be next to each other like a chess board. I'd like to get rid of the horizontal space between category images as well.
