Option types

Hi,
could someone explain a bit more what exactly the two option types file and readonly are/was intended to use for?
I can't seem to clear this one out.

Please give some examples where theese would be of a good choice.

READONLY is just that ... Read Only ...

It is designed for use with Products where a message or text is needed on many Products but the message might change from time to time ...

It will display like an Attribute but it will NOT appear in the Cart and will NOT appear on the Order ...

It will ONLY appear on the Product _info page as READ ONLY test ...
