SSL on a Dedicated Server? OPENSSL?

We are getting ready to move all of our sites to a dedicated server. This means that I will be responsible for configuring Apache and the SSL Certs.

Is OPEN SSL an option?
Can I set up my own CA?
Will it be trusted?
Or will I need a CA from Verisign or GoDaddy or someone like that?

Open SSL is the engin,
make sure to upgrade to at leasst 0.9.8d and sshd 4.7p1

you will need the trust of another root
you can setup your own however it will not be trusted
