Media Mail - Insurance - how to change per product?

Hello,
First off this my first time working with Zen Cart, and after looking at several options for carts, I do believe this is the best choice out there. However, I have only been working with this cart for 2 days - so I am a rookie here.

My issue is twofold. First I am using the USPS rate calculator in production mode, fully registered and working. We offer books, prints, models, and sculptures at our site - but I would like to offer MEDIA MAIL shipping ONLY for the books - currently it appears as an option for all items.

2nd, on items that total over $100 we automatically ship it insured. I do not see any options for adding INSURANCE to the purchase - This attribute could be added to each individual item (we will only have a handful over $100), but I am unsure how to do this with out actually just including it in the total price. And since we plan on doing lots of business locally, this would lead to incorrect totals for customers that choose STORE PICKUP over shipping option.

I did some searching for answers to these questions, but I could not seem to find anything that would explain how to do what I am trying to do with this cart.

Ok Scratch the Insurance question - I am currently installing the insurance option module - which will not do exactly what I am looking for, but will work until I can find a better solution - or code one myself.
