store for gift basket delivery presents unique issues

In this gift basket delivery service, there are features unique to this business:
- customers are charge the standard delivery fee is they order from vendors in a 6 mile mile radius of the delivery address
- outside this radius, there is a surcharge
- a delivery fee is charged PER VENDOR, not per basket purchased
- the order status needs more options like ("delivery person waiting for items", "faxed order", "driver at delivery address", delivery/oder complete",...)

For example, you can buy two baskets from ABC vendor and one basket from ZYX vendor and there would be two delivery fees - one for each vendor.

Any ideas how to do this in osCommerce? (I might have to build a custom application but I don't want to reinvent the wheel if I can help it)

You will need to calculate the distance with the customer's given address. I'm not sure if such mod is currently available.

yellow - thanks. What about:
- the delivery fee per store
- adding "worlkflow" or different status's

Can that be done with existing modules or will that take getting into the code (I am a PHP/MySQL developer)?

--> So your store is sorta like a mall? How will you notify the vendor about the order?

Kim - I meant ZC, not oscommerce - thanks for pointing that out.

yellow - this is like a delivery service that people sell their wares through - like a mall in some regards - and we deliver it. People order online from multiple vendors and we deliver it to them. The delivery fee is based on a per vendor fee, as explained earlier.

How does the vendor calculate the delivery fee? Per item? Per order? (I'm trying to get a better view here to suggest the best solution)

Per vendor. For ex., a user buys 2 baskets from ABC company and 1 basket from XYZ company in one "order". They are charged two delivery fees because it came from two vendors.

Yeah, but then the delivery price for each vendor is the same? Will you add the products yourself or will the vendors need to login and add their own products?

yellow - exactly - I charge the a standard fee for each vendor for any amount of items per order.

A user orders basket A and basket B and basket C from vendor ABC ALONG WITH AN IN THE SAME ONLINE ORDER she orders basket 123 from vendor LMN. The delivery person goes to ABC to pick up three baskets and then goes to LMN to pick one basket, then delivers the FOUR total baskets to the user.

There were TWO vendors involved in that one order so I charge TWO delivery fees.
