The customer account is still created however.

Hi,
I had the same error and was searching for help for hours. Now I finally figured it, I think. No error anymore while creating new account, goes re-directed nicely to the account info (address) page.
This setting in admin was "false", needs to be "true". This kind of setting was never touched in the set up of the other version, thus it was hurt to find out what was the reason. I report this here, in case it would help somebody.
