Controlling Where Login Link goes to

Hello, I've got a front page with both the new products information and the categories turned off. Under Configeration > Customer Details I have chosen:

Custom Shop Status - View Shops and Prices 1
Customer Approval Status - Authorization Pending 0

So, when visitors get to the main page they are obliged to check in. After Checking In it seems that customer are returned to the main page. The side bar appears as does the line asking if the customer wants to look at the latest products. What I want to know is if it is possible to either:

a) direct the login link to another page, eg the one showing the latest additions OR
b) change the text on the main page. The text is a welcome message but not useful once a customer has logged in. Hope this makes sense and htat someone can help me.

All editable text can be found in the languages folder with the corosponding file and this case it is your index that you want to change tthe wording of your index and that wording you will find that in includes>languages>english>index.php and for your quest wording start with line 13
