Product not found - redirect

My question is in regards to the "Sorry, the product was not found." message which occurs when someone clicks an external link (from a Google search or whatever) and the product they are looking for has been deleted or disabled.

I want to have them redirected to the index rather than seeing that message.

Is there a setting somewhere within the admin or a piece of code that I can change?

As a consumer or your customer I would find that very confusing - Instead I would add some other links or perhaps your specials or featured products to that page to offer them an alternative.
