Default free shipping for orders over x$

    Hi All,

How do you set Zen Cart up for FREE SHIPPING for order over a certain $ amount (for example $50.00) AND how do you denote which items qualify for FREE SHIPPING?

For example some items because of their weight or bulk cannot be included in the FREE SHIPPING offer. How do you denote (in Zen Cart for calculations) which items qualify and which do not?

So if all of the items a customer adds to their cart are 1)items that qualify for free shipping and 2)total over 50.00, the shipping will be FREE.

But if they include items that do not qualify for FREE SHIPPING, the shipping will be FREE for the qualified items (if the order total is over 50.00) and the non-qualified items will reference the shipping table for shipping charges.

    Hope that is clear... :-)

    Thanks.

well, you have several things here

to set an order free shipping over x amount you go into admin -> modules -> order total -> shipping -> edit and set it,

however there is no switch at this time built in to over ride this on a per product basis,

Then you have the Always Free Shipping option that is built into Zen Cart ...

However, that is not written to be based on "only for orders over $XX.XX amount" ...

So, you have half the code in one place and half the code in another ... but the two peices are not made for each other ...

Then, you have the Free Shipping Options shipping module, that is designed to show when one of the criteria is met for Total, Items, or Weight ... however, this is not designed based on per item identification ...

In other words ... custom coding would be required to accomplish something like this ...

IF there was a way to do this, what shipping method would be used for these never free shipping items?

    Hi All,

Hmmmm. It sounds like most of the components are there, just not together. :-)

BTW: Shipping (and not being able to individual attributes on sale) is my biggest headache. :-(

Would it work if the items that do not qualify for free shipping, referenced the set table rate (based on order total).

So... Shipping is FREE for orders over $50.00 *on qualified items.

Let's say a customer adds 4 items to their cart:

item #1 10.00 qualifies - picture on item says qualifies for free shipping.
item #2 30.00 qualifies - picture on item says qualifies for free shipping.
item #3 10.00 qualifies - picture on item says qualifies for free shipping.
item #4 25.00 doesn't qualify - picture on item says due to the bulk of this item, normal shipping rates apply.

The customer has free shipping on 3 items, but the fourth item does not qualify and the shipping table rate for orders of 25.00 is $6.50. So shipping for the entire order would be $6.50.

However, if the customer had not added item #4, it would have been free shipping for the entire order...

Does that sound like it might work???

What is the qualifying field, or what have you, to distinguish the Products as qualifying and not qualifying for Free Shipping on orders over $50?

    Using the previous example.

item #1 10.00 qualifies - picture on item says qualifies for free shipping.
item #2 30.00 qualifies - picture on item says qualifies for free shipping.
item #3 10.00 qualifies - picture on item says qualifies for free shipping.
item #4 25.00 doesn't qualify - picture on item says due to the bulk of this item, normal shipping rates apply.

I guess it sounds like a switch to over ride this on a per product basis would need to be added into admin -> modules -> order total -> shipping -> ?

    or

The Free Shipping Options shipping module, that is designed to show when one of the criteria is met for Total, Items, or Weight ... would need to be modified to include per item identification ...

    or

Even better? On the edit item screen, maybe in addition to the this item has free shipping button, there could another button that denotes that this item qualifies for free shipping with a qualifier boxes if X is Y.
X could be order total, order weight, etc.
    Y could be 50.00, 50lbs, etc.

That way each item could be set to free, qualified, normal, etc.

    ???

I have a much simpler way that I need to use freeshipper. I need it to kick in over so much $$ and under so many Lbs.

Is there an easy way to accomplish this?

    Thanks,
    John
