Set its minimum value to zero.

I'm looking in the "Customer Details" section in Admin but there is "Zip Code" listed. Am I looking in the correct place?

Admin->Configuration->Minimum Values->Post Code

I have deleted the "*" from the language file for "Post/Zip Code:" in the home directory. I also changed the minimum value to zero.
I then ran a test login and it would not let me complete the login without entering a zip/postal code.

Is there some other way of disabling zip/post code as a required field?

The error message read as follows:

"Your Post/Zip code must contain a minimum of 0 characters"

Is that in a popup or in a red box at the top of the page after clicking Submit?

Copy your /includes/modules/pages/create_account/jscript_form_check.php file into your /includes/modules/pages/login folder, replacing the one that's already there.
