Default Have you ever done this one...!

Since you are usually only on the forum if you're having problems, I thought I might just improve your day...

In order to save some bandwidth on my local network, I moved my zen cart from the development server to my local computer (which has a server). I copied the folders, backed up the database, and recreated it on "localhost". And began installing the last few of my modules. (I left the difficult ones where files have to be compared) for last. I carefully copied the configure.php file, and then changed the settings from the development server IP address to localhost.

I installed two really easy modules, with no overwriting of files, just SQL updates which I did from the Admin interface. Then I did the "How did you hear about us" module - lots of file editing. Plus a SQL installation. Didn't work, checked every file - all fine. Checked the database thorough PHP Admin - very odd - no new tables. The SQL commands didn't run. Check the forum - this module can do that. Installed via PHP Myadmin. Database is perfect, but still no menu, no configuration. Nothing showing in Add Customers either, but perhaps the default is "off" and I need the configuration. Back to the forum. Read Read Read. Change. Test. Read. Test. Give up.

Next module. SQL installation through admin doesn't work again. More problems.

Skip to 3 hours later...I add a customer. And he doesn't appear in the admin screen.

And THEN it finally dawns on me. I changed configure.php in includes but not in admin.

My Zencart admin interface with the MySql installations it does is working on the development server, and installing mySQL to there. My files, customer interface and PHPMyAdmin is working through localhost updating my own computer.

WHAT a mess - and on BOTH computers!!! I suspect it will be quicker to go back to my backup files even though it means doing all those file edits again. I hope that whatever problem you're researching seems straightforward in comparison.

Did you change the path to your sql server as well?
I no longer provide installation support on forum for all my modules. However, if there are real bugs with the modules please feel free to contact me

diannev, well, you gave me a chuckle.

Always nice when someone shares their experiences and allows others to laugh or learn from their mistakes. It has happened and will continue to happen for all us coders, making somewhat obvious mistakes and trying to figure what went wrong and where.

    Good troubleshooting!
