Shipping Module Help

Why aren't either of my UPS or USPS shipping modules working??

For USPS I get this message:

United States Postal Service United States Postal Service
We are unable to find a USPS shipping quote suitable for your mailing address and the shipping methods we typically use.
If you prefer to use USPS as your shipping method, please contact us for assistance.
(Please check that your Zip Code is entered correctly.)

The zip code entered is correctly.

The green light is lit under sort order for USPS.

The USPS Web Tools User ID is correct as well. (no prompt for PW?)

Enable USPS Shipping = 1

Server: production

no zones set
display weight transit time = 1

all shipping methods selected for domestic and international

debug mode = 0

For UPS I get the wrong item weight...
United Parcel Service (1 x 5.00lbs)
while the item is entered into the category details as having a shipping weight of mere ounces.

So this module isn't working either...

If you do a search on 'USPS' you'll find a thread about a Zen Cart solution the USPS problem. USPS changed their setup about a week ago, never told anyone and created problems for most eCommerce software.

OK....the UPS issue seems to be caused by our error:

the shipping weights are in POUNDS on ZC and we entered them in number of ounces but ZC counts the '5' as 5 pounds and not 5 ounces.

How then, do I indicate a product of only five ounces? Is there a way to set the detault to ounces, and not pounds??

As far as the USPS issue, Im still stumped...

You could probably edit a Core file to change from Pounds to Ounces, or input 0.31 -- as that is what 5 ounces divided by 16 is.

Another change to make: Admin > Shipping / Packaging
Package Tare Small to Medium - added percentage:weight 0:0 [not 0:3]

As far as the USPS issue, Im still stumped...

Just checked out the thread...

Downloaded the new USPS module....
disabled the old....copied it to my HD local dir....deleted it from server...
Uploaded the new USPS module to my server...
Enabled it
Set the settings

Still get same message....!

All specifics filled in correctly, as before...

(The question re machinable products seems disabled- I guess that was the temp fix?)

Did you remember to uninstall/reinstall the USPS module?

OK....I disabled the old mod...

Then re-enabled USPS with the new module in place...
re-entered the username API

but still get:

My mistake.

Ok..found it....knew it seemed familiar...I've checked out all the menus on the admin....thought it was on that first drop-down menu too, but on my smaller monitor doesn't dispaly the whole list....lol Had to move the window to the larger monitor....

Did I change that so that ZC doesnt add extra weight to customers' orders?

Or was the default value an error?
