Changing .php to .php4?

First off, sorry, but I'm pretty clueless when it comes to php, mysql and all this other stuff. I've uploaded the zc files to my server, but all I get when I try to install is text like a source code. My host support said I needed to change every instance of .php in the scripts to .php4 or .php5. That doesn't sound right to me. Am I doing something wrong? My host is earthlink

I think this would need to be done if both php4 and php5 are installed on the same server. I have a similar issue with a module recently installed where php5 is required but the normal .php extension runs php4 by default not 5

We run both php 4 and 5.

php 4 is the default, but if you want to use php 5 you just add a few lines to a .htaccess file - no need to change any file extensions.

Yes, I tried that but screwed everything up. I'm working with Ceon to try to get the module working (payoffline) it's "public $cart and private $ etc that are causing the problems I could replace "public with "var" I think but....well this is for another thread really.
