    help question Upgrading Woes

    Hi all,

I currently have my shop set up at the chop haus DOT com and it is running 1.3.7.1. I want to upgrade to 1.3.8 to take advantage of the new features. I read through the upgrade FAQ, specifically on using Winmerge and upgrading my database. I am unsure of how to proceed.

Do I simply copy over the files from the new version of zen cart and overwrite my old files? What good is the zc_install folder of the 1.3.8 version if all it does is upgrade the database? I tried upgrading my database, and all seemed to go well, but when I check my version, it still says the database version and cart are 1.3.7.1. I'm sorry to sound like a newb, but I am having some real trouble with moving forward with this release.

    Please offer some suggestions,

    Matt

Check the list of files that were changed or are new that comes with the 1.3.8 download. Those are the ones you really need to be concerned about. If you modified any of them for your template, use WinMerge to compare your files to the latest version and update your template files.

So, all I need to do is essentially copy the 1.3.8 files over to my site via FTP ?

Yes, along with the zc_install folder, BUT before you do that, you should backup your database just in case something goes wrong.

Remember to check your custom template files against the latest versions to see what needs to be changed, so that your template runs correctly with 1.3.8.

Once you run zc_install and upgrade the database, you should be good to go. Remember to select "upgrade database" and not "install"!
