With the code in colors.css, you can get rid of stylesheet_smartbg.css.

That was the output HTML - you will not see it as such in tpl_main_page.php.

Do you have smartbg_aboutus.jpg in /includes/templates/your_template/images/? If the code found that, it would be making the "smartBG_aboutus" classname.

Your copy of the Smart Backgrounds code still refers to .gif - all of those need to become .jpg, since your images for that location are smartbg.jpg and smartbg_aboutus.jpg.

The topmenu images can be whatever you want, since they are not involved in the smartbg file-checking code.
