problems with image display

Hi

I've moved my website live from localhost and whilst it display banners fine it isn't displaying product images on the live site when it was doing it fine on the localhost. The directory permissions for product images (in uploads directory) is 755 - in admin I got a message saying the directory was not writeable so I changed it to 777 - which got rid of the message and uploads product images but still doesn't display them

Any ideas?

resolved - something in the .htaccess was preventing it from displaying
