ok I am upgrading from 1.3.8 to 1.3.8a due to a problem I am having, sorry I did not include this information in the post
The error stops the upgrade
To upgrade from 1.3.8 to 1.3.8a, there is no database upgrade step required.
The upgrade only affects PHP files.

Sounds like your MySQL database is ... wonky.
I suggest you contact your hosting company to see why the database is giving those errors.
Or, you could do a repair on each of your tables, manually.
Or, if it's just a test database, you could drop it and re-create it and re-import its content.
Do you have other databases on the same server?
Or maybe you just have a permissions problem on the mysql user account you've assigned to the database.
