default values in drop down box

Hello everyone,

I've been looking and so far I haven't found an answer to this question. I have an attribute called color. For the colors I have red, blue, green, etc. I also have a default value that is called "select". This tells the customer that they need to select a color before moving on to checkout.

My question is this... The default value shows up as "select" when you first load the product info page. But it is also a selectable item in the pull down. Is there a way to not get it to show as a selection in the drop down box?

I hope I have explained myself well enough. If you need more information please let me know.

Just so you know. Here is what I have the value "select" set to... "display purposes only (yes)" & "Default Attribute to be Marked Selected (yes)"
