doing away with gift certificate and newsletter?

Is there a way to get rid of the gift certificate and news letter options?

Also - Id like to have an option in that box to say "About Us"
how would i do that?

Search the downloads area; there is a download called "About Us."

There's an admin switch for the newsletter.

You can also turn off the gift certificates from the Admin, under Modules, Order Total
