Show case without checkout, or shopping cart only mode

I was writing into this area to see if there were any mods on the subject. I'm attempting to make my page allow customers to put items into their cart, but not give them the option to check out at all!

Right now I'm considering some terrible work around. I sure hope someone has a better option!

No, I can't elaborate on the "point". Let me rephrase my question.

I'm trying to let users add items to the shopping cart and view them, but not give the option to check out at all. No check out button, just a shopping cart full of items.

At first, I tried showcase mode, but it apparently removes the shopping cart and I want to keep the shopping cart.

So, either show case mode with shopping cart, or normal mode with checkout disabled or the check out button removed but the functionality still enabled. (which would be fine, as long as people don't get snarled in some dead end checkout they don't know what to do with)

Does that help explain what I'm talking about?

You would need to do some customization to block all of the checkout_links then block all of the checkout_pages by not installing any modules for payment or checking ... should they get there ...
