It compresses the page before sending to browser....but in your case it doesn't appear to have helped much.......it still takes a long time to appear but now when it does appear.....it sorta pops onto the page....its just the waiting for it to do so which will make the average user think its broken

Ah, I see. So that may be a temporary solution to at least keep things moving until I move to another host?

Yep, not much help. Your www.classicshaving.com site seems awful slow too! (if it's yours).

Looks like it's time to kick your host in the ___, and get them to move you to a less busy server or ???? may be time to move to an new host.

classicshaving isn't mine, but yes, they're known to have host issues now and then.

I'm actively looking for a new host...just wish I could figure out this memory issue.

I would use GZip with even a good host ... faster is better ...

But I digress ...

I have clients with 1000s of Products and 10000s of Attributes and their pages run at:

Parse Time: 0.367 - Number of Queries: 412 - Query Time: 0.237342443115

Parse Time: 0.654 - Number of Queries: 1811 - Query Time: 0.381313320358

Parse Time: 0.466 - Number of Queries: 911 - Query Time: 0.236373372696

Server configuration is very important ...

Dedicated servers are not required to acheive good results ...

for comparision:
I have a site that has an average of 45 users on at any one time during the day. 3 admins in the backend working, customers downloading, image heavy site.....

load average: 1.13, 1.08, 1.04

I think its time for a new host

3174 products and even during our 1 day christmas eve sale, when we had a couple of hundred user on the site at a time I was beating the parse times posted by Linda above.....

How many queries are being used when accessing the cart? I'm getting this question from one of my potential hosts.

What has me confused, is that it's a relatively simple site.

13 products
Each order is usually less than 3 products
1800 total orders as of this time

My current host is recommending I upgrade to a dedicated server. I'd love to do that, but that just doesn't make sense right now based on the company size and the cost of such a server.

If http://westcoastshaving.com/ is the site in question, you are right to start looking for a new Host because they are just blowing smoke.

I seriously doubt the problem is with the above site but you can test yourself by using:
Admin > Configuration > Logging : Display The Page Parse Time [true]

You will then see at the bottom of every Zen Cart page, the load time for PHP & mySQL. Load your Zen Cart Home page then Refresh. If the times for both are greater than 1 second, the Server is slow / overloaded. These are the times listed by Linda, a few posts earlier and are a good comparison.


Also, for any potential Host you should only need to tell them you have 13 products and they'll know the site will not be a problem -- if their Servers are not overloaded that is.

Yup, that's the one. The host has been fine, but aren't really interested helping me solve this problem. So I'll be moving shortly.

During a low traffic time, I get the following.

Parse Time: 0.196 - Number of Queries: 157 - Query Time: 0.0933376732941
