Image Handler - Solution to additional images not showing

Hi,

I've installed the Image Handler download to be able to show additional product pictures on my product info pages. I added a new image for one of my products but the additional image wasn't showing up on the front-end. I searched the main thread as much as I could, but I found it to big and didn't find the answer to my problem. I did however find the reason on my own and would like to share it here to maybe save others some time.

The reason my additional image wasn't showing up is because the file was saved with the following extension, in caps: .JPG

However, my main image had the following extension, no caps: .jpg

I then changed the capped extension to lower case (.jpg) and it worked.

In my opinion, the case of the extension should not cause a problem like this. Image Handler simply reuses the same case as the original file, so I guess the problem needs to be solved at the page level. In any case, have a second look at your extensions if some additional images don't show up.

I still cannot fix it. I have changed my extensions to small but does not work.
I see it when i add a picture in image handler but i do not see it on the live view. I have been searching all over forums for this fix and i have tried everything but nothing works. Any ideas?

I am having the same problem and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I uploaded a couple of 'sample images' to test the additonal photos and the samples showed fine. I have now spent the last 14 hours preparing photos and uploading them and now NOTHING is showing up on additional photos.

PLEASE HELP....

OK, after freaking out I changed all of the extensions on the first product from .jpg to .JPG and it's working! So 1 down and only about 5,999 to go... sure wish I'd have realized this AS I WAS SAVING each and every one of the pictures... ah well...

Perhaps that should be included in BIG LETTERS somewhere in the readme.txt to save other people many hours of valuable time and frustration.

Image Handler is a GREAT product now that I THINK and HOPE I have finally gotten the hang of it!

OK, I'm confused.

Additional images require an underscore (_) in the file name.

Product Image: image.jpg
Additional Image: image_Sideview.jpg

Casing of 'jpg' or 'JPG' and/or using or not IH makes no difference.
It's the underscore in the file name that is the key to additional images.


Note: Admin > Catalog > Product Types
Choose your Product Type and make sure "Show Additional Images" is enabled.

I started using computers back when there was only DOS, and you had to be very aware of your "cases" back then. DOS did no forgiving whatsoever. If it was upper case, then you had better use upper case to retrieve it or DOS was never gonna give it back.

I've noticed that some online servers are more lenient than others. Some of them seem to fall back on the old DOS conventions. Since you never know which computer is going to be Legalistic, I've always had the habit of keeping ALL my file names and extensions in lower case ONLY. I never use caps for my website file names, ever. This prevents a whole lot of problems such as y'all are describing.

I've had FTP accounts on many servers on the internet, in multiple countries even. (I've been online a long time.) Some servers are lenient, some are not. And even if YOUR server is letting you do anything you want, it does not mean that everyone shopping on your site is going to have the kind of computer hardware or software to interpret the jumble of upper and lower case that you've used.

AND... if you use lower case every time, it's less to remember and less chance of making those errors.
