    red flag 500 Internal Server Error when adding to cart

    HELP! People want to pay me money, but can't put anything in the shopping cart!

    When adding an item to the shopping cart , a "500 Internal Server Error" is generated. The host is no help, but here's a snip from the log;

    [Mon Dec 31 07:18:10 2007] [error] [client 75.109.12.234] mod_security: Access denied with code 500. read_post_payload: Failed to create file "/var/run/20071231-071810-75.109.12.234-request_body-rv49ep" because 13("Permission denied") [severity "EMERGENCY"] [hostname "dcapts.com"] [uri "/zcart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=66&products_id=199&action=add_product"]

    I've set everything I can find to 755, what am I missing?

    Hi and Welcome to the Forum.

    It is unfortunate that you say your Host is no help as they are the ones creating the problem. They have set up the Server Firewall with Rules that are too strict, that is what's causing your problem.

    Pass the exact error msg. on to them. If they know what they are doing they will see the problem in their Firewall Rules. If they don't see the problem they don't know what they are doing, best to then start looking for another Host.

    Loaded the site onto a new host, and it's good to go. I was sick of that old host anyhow, so this was just the kick in the pants I needed to get off their servers.

    Sorry Rob, the firewall has nothing to do with it.

    We corrected the issue with the php temporary directory fixing the web error sent by this user. This was most most likely completed inside the clients timeframe but thanks to your helpful suggestion they never checked back with us.

    Please do not fill the heads of clients with information that is quite obviously off track, and then blame the hosting company for not knowing what they are doing. It is dissapointing that the support you offer to Zen Cart users is merely "dump your host". Take a moment to listen to the issue, make suggestions, and actually assist the poster instead of making a quick assumption taking the easy way out and enflaming a person already frustrated with a technical issue.

    Just for the record

    mod_security: Access denied with code 500

    is a pretty good indicator that your Mod security settings are ( were ) to tight,

    and rather than coming here with an attitude ( dont know if you do or not ) you should read what rob posted,

    he instructed the user to send the exact error to you, and that if you couldnt fix it then it was time to jump ship,

    It sounds to me like this person wanted out anyway and this was just the excuse they needed,
