Affiliate linking from banners

I think I'm getting a handle on how banners work - at least I can make the banner box appear where I want it! What I'm attempting to do is insert java or html from a tradedoubler affiliate link, the best result I get is the banner box (with the heading sponsors - can this be changed?) with a missing image icon in it.

I cannot point to the image locally as the code generating the image is on the tradedoubler (affiliate) server.

Am I attempting the impossible?

Does anyone understand the question

It really depends on the code they gave you and what you're doing with it. Perhaps you can give more detail, along with a URL to your site.

What is this link supposed to do for you?
Is it supposed to track clicks, count impressions, or just ensure that you get credit for purchases made after using that link?

t's supposed to do all three - I now realise that the link may not be active at the affilliates end ( I get a message saying as much when I click it) but there is now image being displayed.
