Help to Install Easy Populate?

Hello,

I am an extreme newbie to Zen Cart. My previous stores were with Yahoo and Volusion. Both of which already had the ability to bulk upload/download products. This occurred right from the admin panel. I have done a search on these forums and see that Easy Populate is the solution for uploading my thousands of products. However, I can't find info on HOW TO install it into my admin area. I use Camelot Hosting.

Any help is appreciated.

Re: Help to Install Easy Populate?

The easiest way to install EP is to read the step by step instructions licated in the install and the readme files

Re: Help to Install Easy Populate?

Easy Populate is written and maintained on its own site, so you need to ask there for instructions. The instructions are probably included when you download EP.

...Gotta check tabs to see if they were answered already by the time I get to them... lol

Re: Help to Install Easy Populate?

Hi Kevin and Welcome to the Forum.

Would this "Admin section" you referred to with your other Hosts be within Zen Cart or was it in the Control Panel provided with your Hosting account?

And are you familiar with using an FTP program? If not, best to find one you like and get familiar, you will be using it a lot.

Re: Help to Install Easy Populate?

Greetings All,
Thank you for your question, Kevin. I am brand new to Zen Cart, too, and am very excited about the prospects!

I currently use Volusion to host my site www.CraftMagick.com and the import/export feature Volusion offers has me VERY spoiled and I've been looking at EASY POPULATE, as well.

If you would be so kind as to post the installation info you find (or at least a link to it) here on this thread I would be extremely grateful. And if I find the answers in the meantime, I'll do the same.

Nice to meet you all and I'm really looking forward to a fabulous Zen Cart relationship!

Brightest Blessings,
Connie

Re: Help to Install Easy Populate?

Hi Connie,

Sorry I am just responding now, but I only now noticed your post. yes, the Volusion import/export feature is nice. Easy Populate is the solution, however, at a quick glance I do not think it works for as many fields as Volusion. I had zencartbuilder.com do the actual install and today is the first day I am trying to learn it. I am also trying to figure out how to ftp my images and then have them associate with my products. If you have that one down..let me know.

Good luck!

Re: Help to Install Easy Populate?

You can ftp all of your images and, in your admin product entry pages, specify the main image filename as it sits in your server /images/ folder; or you can browse to the base images on your pc in the product entry pages and just ftp the additional and large images.

Either way, image filenames are important. You need to keep them distinct and identify medium, large, additional and large additional images with the proper conventions so Zen Cart will automatically handle them correctly. See the FAQs for more information.

Re: Help to Install Easy Populate?

Thanks Glenn. Here is a quick question I posted in another thread. Will this work:

Can i create sub directories in my image directory, by product type:

/public_html/images/baseball/product1.jpg

/public_html/images/basketball/product2.jpg

Then can I upload a csv file for my products with Easy Populate and specify in the product url field:

mystore.com/public_html/images/baseball/product1.jpg and

mystore.com/public_html/images/basketball/product2.jpg

Will my images then show up for those products?

With the above, I am only uploading one image per product.

Thanks SOOOO much!

Re: Help to Install Easy Populate?

You can use subdirectories as you indicate. I don't use Easy Populate so can't say anything about how that will work.

Be aware that, if you should want to use large images, you will have to structure them as
/images/baseball/product1.jpg
/images/basketball/product2.jpg
and
/images/large/baseball/product1_LRG.jpg
/images/large/basketball/product2_LRG.jpg
not
/images/baseball/large/product1_LRG.jpg
/images/basketball/large/product2_LRG.jpg

I use EZ-populate and yes the method your are speaking of will work, however you can only have one URL location and from your FTP you can name the images related to the original

So under the images in your ez-pop spread sheet you would put
baseball/product1.jpg (don't need the whole URL EZ-pop already knows that all you need it directory and image name), this will load image one into the file and image one will show up on your product page.

You will then need to FTP image prodcut2.jpg if it is related to product image 1 then you need to name it accordingly to get it to show up as the second or third images of the product.

NOTE: make sure the image directory is read write 777, or 755

I use this method all the time with EZ-pop, off topic i have modified EZ-pop to upload MSRP and the fields for the profit margin mod if anyone would like it. PM ME

Re: Help to Install Easy Populate?

To clarify:

In your case, if product2.jpg is an additional image for product1.jpg, you would have to name it product1_2.jpg (or product1_whatever.jpg) in order for it to be processed correctly. The _ is a requirement when using subdirectories to organize images.

Re: Help to Install Easy Populate?

I have easy populate installed, however, when I upload an inventory file, it looks to import properly, but no products or categories show up. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Thank you.

Re: Help to Install Easy Populate?

I am still having one problem with my inventory that has been uploaded using EP. All the items upload fine now, however, my categories are messed up on the store. For example, when I uploaded Wyse Terminals, a new Terminals category, with a lone subcategory, Wyse Terminals was created. I have checked my upload files, and they seem to be setup correctly. Another weird thing, is the double categories do not show up in admin, so I have no idea how to even manually correct this.

If you want to see what I'm talking about, my website is www.centrixcs.com.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: Help to Install Easy Populate?

What you are seeing is just a matter of word wrapping in the categories box.

Terminals-> (55)
|_ Adds Terminals (11)
|_ DEC Terminals
|_ IBM Terminals
|_ Link Terminals (15)
|_ Televideo
Terminals (11)
|_ Wyse Terminals (18)
Printers-> (138)

is really

Terminals-> (55)
|_ Adds Terminals (11)
|_ DEC Terminals
|_ IBM Terminals
|_ Link Terminals (15)
|_ Televideo Terminals (11)
|_ Wyse Terminals (18)
Printers-> (138)

If you want to make all categories fit on one line, you can make the left sideboxes wider.

Hello,
I too had the incorrect version of EasyPopulate. When I tried to delete the files in /public_html, and then tried to open my Admin, I received this error message:

Fatal error: Class box: Cannot inherit from undefined class tableblock in /home/ssolis/public_html/admin/includes/classes/box.php on line 27

I do not know what I did, or how to fix this. Can anyone help? As of right now, I cannot access my Admin Panel.

Thanks,
Sandy
